Description
Vintage 1930s Bakelite Macaw Brooch~Painted Huge Parrot For your consideration is this stunning Vintage Bakelite Painted Macaw Brooch. Huge.... 3 3/4" long X 1 3/4 wide. Tests positive with scrubbing bubbles and Wrights silver cleaner. As expected from any item this age it does have some paint loss but still a wonderful bakelite macaw brooch! Not knowing a lot about bakelite I went to the jewelry community board and asked some questions about this beauty. Here is what I was told by some of the most knowledgeable people I have had the pleasure to learn from. ***** This parrot looks like the one in the book "Bakelite Pins" on page 100 at the top. It says it is a macaw, but doesn't say who made it, or any other information, no size either. The book says the value is $500-1000. ***** Look hard for some Martha Sleeper designs and compare the techniques and style of painting on them to see if you can correlate the rather unusual style on yours to one that has been confirmed to have been made by her. ( I looked and looked to no avail ) ***** This probably dates to the 30's. I do my best to describe any damage. I do not sell anything I would not wear myself. The majority of items we list are vintage or antiques. As vintage or antique items they will show signs of age and gentle use. Most items have been loved before so the new owner will have to clean. The only cleaning we do on jewelry is if we think there is a signature .... we want to find it for you! So please expect your jewels to arrive with patina. We do our very best to describe any flaws we find. We aren't experts and claim no expertise in any specific areas. Any errors we make are simply human errors. All items are sold as is; any returns are done on a individual basis if we've made an error in the item description.
