This lovely piece was most likely fashioned in England and it was purchased in France. This miniature hair picture was probably used as a love token for traveling. The hair work is of an exceptional high quality and is featured on opalescent glass. The hair is dark brown with highlights of silver. When the sun catches it, you can also see several gorgeous red strands as well! The feathers of hair are held by a delicate clasp of tiny seed pearls.  Intricate Gold cipher work spells out the Loved one's name, “AMELIA” atop of the feathers.   The red leather case has faded abit on the front and there is a slight contrast in the colors of the front and back of the case (visible in the photos.) The leather is in very good condition, with no tears or deep scratches.  There is red velvet lining on the opposite side from hairwork. It is in quite fine condition and is also used as piping around the hair design. The case has a hinged closure. The case does not snap tightly closed. It does stay in the closed position unless opened by hand. The picture shows an accurate view of what the closure looks like. The case measures 2 ¼”wide” x 2 ½” long x 3/4" deep.  It is in excellent condition and has been stored meticulously in a non smoking environment.
