Description
This piece has been in my family for a very long time. It is a Handpainted in Oils reproduction of Sir Thomas Lawrence Brooch. The orginal painting was a self portrait done by Sir Thomas Lawrence. I have had the piece appraised in 2004 and this is what the appraisel states: " This is an interesting little brooch handpainted in oils reproduction "Master Lampton.". It has been copied in the style of the orginal artist, Sir Thomas Lawrence an English painter, Sir Thomas Lawrence (1769-1830) was a master portrait artist- in fact he was the most successful portrait painter of the Romantic Age. Today, his many paintings can be found hanging in dozens of the finest museums around the world. It was during the early 1800s that the brooches were made to frame tiny paintings such as this. It would be a very attractive painting of any size, but makes a most unusual piece of jewelry. It is reasonable to assume that this brooch is circa early 19th century. Based on comparative data for other brooches recently sold and considering the similarities and differences for the condition, size, artistic merit, and age. The back and trim on the brooch is sterling silver with rhodium plating and is approx 1" around. As the appraisel was done 4 years ago I am now unsure of its value, at that time it appraised for $550.00 for insurance purposes. The Brooch for its age is in excellent condition as it was kept in it's original box and never worn after my mother inherited it , whether or not it was ever worn before that I couldn't say. If you are looking for an unusual piece of jewelry than this is the piece for you. I honestly believe it will only go up in value as most jewelry pieces do and maybe worth close to $1000.00 now for insurance purposes as it was worth over $500.00 back in 2004. But I cannot say for sure that this is the case. This piece would be great piece for a collector of fine art or unusual pieces of jewelry. I tried to do research on it the web but wasn't able to find anything out about it, so it may be a one of a kind. Was hoping there would be someone out there who would treasure the piece as much as me or a kind hearted fellow ebayer who would be willing to help out another fellow ebayer. Please check my feedback I have 100% feedback score on both selling and purchases. I try to be as honest as I can be about the pieces I list. It is in the orginal box and pasted inside the box ( couldn't get a good photograph) is " Old Masters" " Master Lampton" (The Red Boy) After Sir Thomas Lawrence 1769-1830. This reproduction is hand painted in oils. The brooch has been in my family for a very long time and has sentimental value to me and one of the only things I received when my mother passed away. Unfortunately I never thought to ask her the history of it as the first and last time I saw it before she passed, I was a child and didn't know to ask. The only reason I have put it up for bid is because I am out of work on workers comp and need to catch up on bills, or I never would have listed it. Thank you for looking and your consideration.
